Sewing & Fashion Fun on the teevee

by Ramona on October 17, 2011

While sewing/fashion competitions are fun and sometimes scary to watch, we lo-o-ve the sewing shows on public television where there is actual learning. I speakof Sewing with Nancy , Martha’s Sewing Room , Sew It All  with Ellen March, and other shows of such ilk.

However …….

ASG members and other sewing peeps, stop denying it; you are mesmerized by the drama-laden sewing/fashion competitions on TV. Right? What’s not to like about young punks slaving on a sewing machine to create exquisite fashion?  Season 9 pf Project Runway is running on the Lifetime Channel, and there are already two spin-offs. You can continue getting your watch-good-people-sew-bad-things (or vice versa) fix on TV with these new programs:

The Project Accessory first episode airs after the Project Runway finale on October 27. Actress/model/jewelry designer Molly Sims is the host & judge, along with a slew of other celebrity judges including accessory designer Kenneth Cole. Their job is to find the next “It” accessory we’ll all be clamoring for.

Project Runway: All Stars begins November 3. The cast of this show includes … you know, the final-threes, the almost-wons, etc. Seriously, I wish them well since this is what they do for a living. The roster of judges includes that icon of fashion & style, my hero Miss Piggy. The host is supermodel Angela Lindvall. If you have not ever heard of Angela, what planet are you living on? 🙂

Also heard through the grapevine:

Fashion Star: A design competition on NBC set to air in 2012, hosted by supermodel Elle McPhereson.

24 Hour Catwalk: Also on the Lifetime Channel for 2012, hosted by Alexa Chung.

I will be glued to the TV, mesmerized.  What about you?  Do you watch these shows to the point of obsession?

Have never missed an episode of Project Runway. Love all the sewing shows on Lifetime and PBS, here we here in St Petersubrg get an hour and a half each weekday morning of sewing shows. How lucky are we???? We also have Mad Fashion with Chris March which is very funny, on Bravo.
Looking forward to the two new shows!!

Sewing shows in my market are on at odd times so I record them and get my sewing on TV fix every weekend. I miss the one they tried with Isaac Mizrahi, he’s such a ‘personality’. There’s a lot to watch if you have a computer… how about the Members-Only sewing shows with Ramona on ASG? No better reason to join ASG if you ask me!

You are right, Sue! Ramona’s webinars are the tops. Join up, people!
Regarding Isaac Mizrahi, you’ll get to see him as one of the judges on the Lifetime spin-off shows.

I love Project Runway, the designing is great but I also love the drama! lol But as far as I am concerned the PBS shows are the best. I have been watching Sewing With Nancy for a very long time and feel like she is a member of my family. She never fails to amaze me with her tips and creations.

I am a sewing show addict, but not particularly to Project Runway. I just wish Nina Garcia and Michael Kors would do away with the snarkiness and smile once in a while! I can do without all that negativity. I suspect Project Accessories will be more of the same. I am hoping for a show where they design pieces some of us, such as the ASG member demographic (slightly older and slightly “fluffier”), would actually wear, but I am not betting on it. I am more likely to watch the accessory show since my absolute passion in sewing is purses and handbags (when I am not sewing for some family member). I have just about every tape/DVD Nancy Zieman has ever done. I also loved Sandra Betzina’s old show and miss it terribly! I have most of her tapes as well. Just as long as we keep getting to view them, I will be happy!
