ASG BLOG: Ramona Intro

by Ramona on March 19, 2013

Where is the year going? Seems we were just all wishing each other a “Happy 2013” and now the first quarter of the year is almost over. Things sure seem to move fast in our happy world of sewing!

My name is Ramona and I’m the Education Director for the American Sewing Guild. This is my “dream job” (how lucky am I!!!!) and I’ve been in this position for just over two years.  My responsibilities are varied, and the social network sites have been added to my list upon Samina’s retirement. She did a wonderful job with this BLOG as witnessed by all the heart-felt comments posted; I shall humbly attempt to follow in her foot steps. Thank you, Samina, for showing the way.

I haven’t posted yet because I was wondering, “What does one BLOG?” Well, of course sewing things, but I asked on our ASG facebook page (have you become a follower yet???) what our followers would like to see. I have my ideas, but my ideas are nothing if there are no followers.  As with all things sewing, there were varying answers such as how much to post, how often, and on what subjects.

So, I wanted to at least introduce myself to you, and then decided we’ll go from there. The sewing world is a big world, and there are as many interests as there are products on the market. I happen to like to research historical sewing/pattern books (free online if you know where to search!), I like technical sewing, I adore technology, I don’t like sewing for myself but love sewing for other people. I have an affinity for old sewing books and am always scouring old book stores for something to add to my library. I think we can always learn from the past and learn from those just entering the glorious world of sewing as well.

I like sharing what I learn and making the learning curve shorter through what I have learned over these many years of studying the discipline of sewing. I like experimenting with new products and techniques, taking twists on old things to make them new. You will find I am passionate about all aspects of sewing; I have pretty much dabbled in everything and have developed a high-level of skill in many areas and am still a newbie at others just like you.

I hope you’ll be a follower as I look for things to share with you that others have shared with me, and things that I find of interest that I think you may like.

You will find I’m quite laid back and akin to the neighbor next door who loves to share all things sewing. Please tell your friends about the American Sewing Guild. If you are not a member, you should be. The benefits are many and the life-long friendships are plenty. As soon as you walk into a chapter or neighborhood group meeting, you won’t meet a stranger as you all have the commonality of  “sewing speak”. Now, how cool is that! No strangers, just friendships waiting to be made.

Please visit our webiste: www.asg.org and join in the facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/sewingguild

Please bookmark this BLOG and follow along. I look forward to reading your comments in response as we all make more new sewing friends through this technology.

Sew for now…..

Reading your blog made me think about all the great sewing books & supplies I am unearthing a I move to my new house. Write sometime about what to do with massive stashes of old patterns. I would love to find a way to pass some along to others who would enjoy having them rather than tossing them or donating them to a place that will toss them!

ASG is lucky to have found you. Sharing our knowledge is what makes ASG special!

Ramona- Regarding the Tag Bag. . .those corners are very troublesome. We’ve changed it up a bit and added boxed corners. May I suggest that you talk about variations on FB or in the blog? When I shared with other members here about changing up the corners, everyone was elated. A simple modification really helped.
