  • Description

Did you know that not every embroidery design will work on every project? Do you know what characteristics to look for when selecting a design for your specific garment project? Do you know the difference between interfacing and stabilizer when setting up your design?  Machine embroidery is a popular technique for embellishing everything from socks, pockets, collars, t-shirts, and dresses, to custom coats, bridal attire, and denim jackets. The process is the same regardless of your project, but the set up and selection of stabilizer, interfacings, density of design and needle to name a few, affect your final stitching results.

Machine embroidery on clothing

In this class, Designer Joi Mahon will walk you through the key elements that affect embroidery and her checklist for successful sewing. One in particular may surprise you! She has been adding these techniques and solutions to clothing for over 25 years in her sewing studio.  Her fifth and latest book Machine Embroidery 101 (Fox Chapel Publishing) focuses on key techniques for successful results and is a guidebook for everything you need to know to begin machine embroidery or update your skills and techniques.
